Buddhist guardians are deities who made a solemn vow to protect the Buddhism and Buddhist followers. Toward the late Joseon period, the cult of Buddhist guardians had gained popularity, and the reason was that they were regarded as the protector of the worldly welfare of the people. This exhibition will feature the various types of Buddhist guardian paintings and explore the meaning of Buddhist guardians cult in the late Joseon period.
