Senior Prof. Lothar Ledderose is celebrating his 50thyears of research at Heidelberg.  He will explore the state of the field by means of assessing ground-breaking dissertations that changed the direction of research in East Asian art history.

Description: On the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of Prof. Ledderose’s tenure at Heidelberg University on July 7, 2019 (he passed his doctoral examination and defended his dissertation on July 7, 1969!) he will explore what constitutes a successful doctoral thesis.

To complement the Getty-sponsored Connecting Art Histories Dissertation Workshop sessions at Heidelberg University this summer,  other faculty mentors will offer perspectives on their approach to research. The format is informal, hence the humorous, slightly irreverent titles.
