The Ghent Centre for Buddhist Studies
), located at Ghent University, Belgium, is seeking candidates for doctoral (for those who have obtained a university degree in Europe) and postdoctoral fellowships. Though the Centre’s particular strengths are Chinese and Japanese Buddhism, we would welcome anyone working on the topic of Buddhism, broadly defined.
In Belgium, candidates do not apply to the university itself, but instead use the portal of the Flemish Research Foundation (FWO
). Funding is generous, covering up to 4 years for doctoral students and 3 years for postdoctoral fellows, and administrative and teaching duties are minimal. Strong applications that are unsuccessful in obtaining FWO funding will also be reviewed by the Special Research Fund (BOF) of the University of Ghent proper.
Although, as you’ll notice, the current application cycle has not started yet (it will officially open on September 24th, with a deadline of December 31st, 2018. ), we want to stress the importance of connecting early with us. The application is much longer than most doctoral or postdoctoral applications tend to be, and if you are interested we can help you navigate it more efficiently. We therefore strongly encourage parties interested in applying to contact the director of the Centre, Ann Heirman, as soon as possible: firstname.lastname@example.org
