Religion and Material Culture. The School of Religion, Queen’s University is seeking a social scientist who specializes in the material nature of religion as lived in the contemporary world.
Some examples might include: religion and any form of material culture, religion and objects or material(s), religious spaces, pictorial or material representations of the sacred, issues of religion and embodiment, such as religious pilgrimage or religious tourism; curating and experiencing religion, spirituality, supernatural ontologies/worldviews in exhibitionary institutions like the museum, gallery, etc.; working with religious studies theory and method in the “material turn.”
Candidates must have a demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate courses in their area of specialty. Knowledge of a specific religious tradition would be considered an asset.
